Carl, This is very complicated to read and to understand for a non-political/non-philosophical guy like me to understand. I have a friend who told me, "When it is complicated, it's by design".
I know that is not your intent, but I had a difficult time getting through this essay.
Harrison is an old high school buddy, then a Vietnam vet who saw the light, but on return, skipped much of the new left and became a sales and marketing professional. But his core values are quite good. So that's the context for my reply.
Generally, people on the left write two kinds of articles: agitational and analytical (or 'propaganda),' which in this context, is not a pejorative. The first kind takes one idea and, with a gathering of facts and examples, makes that idea clear to millions. (My piece on China last week was something like that). One idea or theme to a large audience.
In the second kind, like this one Bill and I did, we try to make many ideas clear to a much smaller number of people, usually those familiar with Marxism (of various sorts). This is one of those. Many interconnected ideas to a smaller audience.
Think of it in your professional terms: You could give one talk to a group of new sales people to give them the basics and fire them up, and remember to 'always ask for the order.' Then you could write a small book aimed at sales managers familiar with all the ups and downs of markets, of how to better present their products, define their suspects, prospects, and customers--and what you need to keep them. Eventually, you want your new salespeople to move up in their career path, but it takes a little time and work.

Not sure how to respond to your point. I: am sorry that it is difficult to understand. If you have specific questions, please ask us. Thanks.
