¡Viva la Solidaridad!

Meizhu Lui speaks with Mexico's Morena party about building US-Mexican solidarity
2

The six-year-old Mexico Solidarity Project (the MSP) was founded when Meizhu Lui and Bruce Hobson of Liberation Road recognized that Andrés Manuel López Obrador's victory in Mexico's presidential election was an opening to form people-to-people ties. A binational strategy would be newly possible to challenge neoliberal capitalism, US imperialism, and now the rise of MAGA.

While the MSP supports Morena's "4th transformation" which aims to fulfill the goals of the first three revolutionary moments in Mexican history, it is not affiliated with Morena. However, because of its growing reputation for supporting Mexico, the MSP was invited by Morena's Secretary for Mexicans Living Abroad, Alejandro Robles, to visit their office in Mexico City—and to be interviewed on its TV station, 4TV.

In this clip from the interview, long-time "troublemaker" Meizhu Lui explains why solidarity with Mexico is an important principle for the US left.

Meizhu Lui has been the president of an AFSCME local and a community health and economic justice organizer, always putting racial justice at the center of her work. She's the co-author of "The Color of Wealth, the Story behind the US Racial Wealth Divide." Liberation Road has been her political home forever.
